Lewun Bracelet Kit NAIDOC WEEK
The Ngarrindjeri people are the Traditional Custodians of the Lower Murray River, Coorong, and Lakes regions. They have lived on this Country for thousands of years, maintaining a deep and continuing connection to the land, waters, and wildlife.
In the Ngarrindjeri language, the word Le:wun translates to “living” or “sitting” in English. It is pronounced Lou-win. (For bracelet purposes, we have removed the two dots in the word.)
This information was developed with the guidance and permission of Ngarrindjeri Elders, Aunties Tania Young-Kearney and Sonya Young-Duncan.
This bracelet project supports the spirit of NAIDOC week by encouraging students to engage with Aboriginal language, culture and connection through a creative hands on activity. Each bracelet becomes a meaningful symbol of learning, unity and cultural respect.
